Which is why the colors are sometimes so hard to predict when viewing the registries. In today's world, with the availability of color genetic testing, it is a da*** shame that the true color of a horse can't be put on the registration forms. Nothing worse, than having a registered "black" horse bred to another registered "black" horse, produce a double dilute cremello, or a smokey cream, smokey black or a palomino.
Just makes me crazy!!! Such a crap shoot! The registries need to catch up with color genetics, especially if a horse is tested and the true genetic color combinations and genes have been determined!! They should have a place for the gene testing to be entered on the forms, at least. So breeders can know for sure what they are getting. But at least, a breeder selling to another breeder can at least share the information, and perhaps save some heartache or give pleasure for the possibilities.
