I talked to Katy yesterday (in San Antonio, TX) and she had 7 degrees and between 6-10 inches of snow. They still had power, but said some of their friends did not. They did NOT have water as the pipes had apparently frozen even though they had left them all running a little bit. But they do have a swimming pool, so flushing toilets is no problem and they always have bottled waters, so are good. They put the kids in sleeping bags with blankets and comforters in case the power went out during the night, and they do have a fireplace, so all is good there.
She's been trying to get into the hospital, but although they are trying to clear roads, the Texas drivers who don't know how to drive on snow are more dangerous than the snow. She tried to get to the hospital for 2 hours, and finally gave up and went home and on of her residents checked in on her 2 post-surgery patients. She's going to try again today, so we'll see.
Thankfully, she KNOWS how to drive on snow, but I'm very happy she used her head and got away from the lunatics who don't know how to snow drive -- as you know, it's quite different than just driving!
