Hell Coulee Toppers Not Quite Dun
« on: July 12, 2020, 02:41:38 PM »
Tana's little boy still needs a call name, but if registry accepts it, we'll go with "Hell Coulee Toppers Not Quite Dun" for registered name.
Got a nice picture of him today.  [Couple pics of both on Rain's thread.]

It keeps popping into my mind, so it looks like the little guy's barn name is going to be "Quigley".
Which may end up "Squiggly", cause I always seem to do that...

Not quite ready for trimming, but I did pick one hoof up today while trimming his momma.   I was sitting on the floor studying her hooves, and he stopped in front of me, so I picked up a back hoof and looked at it, set it down before he pulled away.  Almost unphased, but I think I put it down before he realized what was going on.

Farrier was out today to trim the saddle horses.  I asked and he agreed to help me tame the wild ones, he held and I trimmed, and he got more than he bargained for.   :o
They weren't too horrible for minimal handling.   They'll be better next trim.  Might have needed a bit more today, but we got a start.  Rain's trim came in pieces, but Quigley's came in almost one piece per hoof.

And, a fun comparison picture...
Quigley's hoof trims inside that of the 15.2H Paint mare's hoof trims.

OMG!!  That is so dramatic!  I never pictured that before, but really an awesome comparison!!

I thought it was a fun comparison.  Wouldn't be quite so dramatic with an adult mini; but Quigley is only about 9.5 weeks old.

That is really nifty!  It's also a good example for people who aren't familiar with minis, that they ARE horses...even if they're one of the cutest things on God's green earth. 🥰🥰🥰

I had to come back and edit to add:

He's another nice, balanced colt.  If you were going to pair him with another on your place, as driving horses, who would you choose?

Thank you.   If I were to get my act together, and train anyone, I'd probably pair him with his full brother Monte.  I have none that are matched in color; but the 3 boys any of them could probably be paired together.  When younger Manny and Monte were pretty evenly matched; not sure Spotty could pair with anyone, as he's noticeably taller than the other boys.
If Rain doesn't grow much I could have a colorful team of Belle and Rain.  It doesn't seem she is going to grow much, but she could catch up.   She was an inch shorter than Quigley at birth, she's now probably 2-3" shorter.  [Bliss, her full sister is quite tall.]

Sort of getting my act together, no leading lessons yet, as I don't have time with harvest; but both are wearing halters during morning chores.  Quigley some what lets me catch him most of the time; but I have to corner Rain, still.
