That graying gene can be so upsetting some times.  Perhaps she'll keep it to herself and not pass it on, as I'm assuming from the colors listed, she's heterozygous for the gene?

She's beautiful no matter what!

Lacey's mare has some great color possibilities, too.  She told me: She's been DNA tested as a buckskin and the dad is a pinto palamino :) her sister just had a filly with the same dad and it's a palomino.

So, I did the calculation and sent to her.  With both parents carrying a cream gene, and one being black based and one being red based, the color possibilities are almost endless!!

Offspring Color Probability

16.41% - Buckskin Tobiano

16.41% - Buckskin

8.20% -   Perlino

8.20% -   Bay

8.20% -  Perlino Tobiano

8.20% - Bay Tobiano

6.25% - Palomino Tobiano

6.25% -  Palomino

3.13% - Red (Chestnut/Sorrel)

3.13% - Cremello Tobiano

3.13% - Red (Chestnut/Sorrel) Tobiano

3.13% - Cremello

2.34% - Smoky Black Tobiano

2.34% - Smoky Black

1.17% - Black

1.17% - Smoky Cream Tobiano

1.17% - Black Tobiano

1.17% - Smoky Cream

Can't wait to see what the "final" color the little one will be!

wow, that is one long list Diane. lol
The greying gene can be a real pain in the neck, do you remember my pinto boy that greyed out Diane? He would have been so much nicer if he had stayed chestnut.

Grace is homozygous black, 1 tobiano 1 gray.
I don't mind gray, except right after a bath!

She's bred to Riot?  Is he homozygous bay?  Or do you know?  Actually, I guess he can't be with the color combos they are coming up with, LOL.

I love how it comes up with the color combos, but the number %s drives me crazy.  I know they are accurate, just drives me crazy, LOL.

And I thought i was "up" on all the colors but what is a smoky cream?  Is that the term for 2 cream genes on black base?  Since perlino is 2 creams on bay and cremello is 2 cream on red (HA - it really "threw us" when Kechi tested as carrying a bay gene!  Took a while for me to realize that even though she carried the bay - she was not a perlino since she had 2 red genes, 0 black genes).

I DO love how many color combinations you can get with the buckskin and the palomino pinto (actually there could be a couple more unless they have also had the stallion tested - since he can "hide" both bay and silver & it would limit the colors if he was homozygous for either)! OR did it do those colors because his color is actually known not to have either?

Yes, 2 cream on black base.

Since I didn't know the complete gene base, I just ran it with what was known to me, so, again, you are right, there could be some other choices as well, if there is silver in there.

I got the website from Diane W. for the foal color predictor at the genetics lab and so far it is spot on with the color choices. For instance, I bred my black appaloosa mare to my chestnut fewspot stud and the outcome 50% bay appy and my bay appy dun filly was born healthy and beautiful. This little one is sold and heading to Florida!
