Thank you.  He's a very special boy, wish he had been fertile, but it is what it is.   I have Topper for foals, and Dakota to love on.  [Topper is a bit stand-offish.]

Poor little Boots looks pretty tough, but he felt good enough to follow me to the gelding pen, so I packed him back and then carried him while I fed Che` and his girls.

Boots still looks a bit tough this morning, but he took a bit of liquid supplement this morning.  [Bought the supplement for my house cat after his dental, but he won't eat it anymore, so looks like Boots gets it, and he seems to like it.]

I may have another bum calf to feed before the month is out; we have an older cow that doesn't seem to have enough for her calf, as he looks like a bum despite being on a cow, so we might just pull him and put him with the other one and bottle and creep feed him.   Two might do better than one, they'll have company.

Oh poor Boots, I hope he feels better very soon. Good luck with your baby moos too - two are often better than one.  Years ago when we were milking cows we had a big elderly cow who was never happier than when she was surrounded by babies.  So after she calved each year we pulled her out of the milking system (as the other cows calved) and gave her the babies to feed and look after. At one time she had 10 babies of various ages following her around for a couple of months - she was fed copious amounts of food! - and dont ask me how, but she remained fat and sassy and all the calves did really well.  Reducing the numbr of calves as time went on did cause us a problem though!  When we gave up milking I gave her to our neighbour who kept her with a calf or two for the rest of her life. She was also a nice calm, steady companion for their racehorses when they were turned out to pasture for their summer break.  :)

Love your story, Anna.  What an awesome cow, not many love calves other than their own that much to take on several.

Glad to hear that Boots is feeling a bit better now.

We too had a cat/dog tussle - but it was one of our adopted ferals and even injured we can't get hold of her.  Sierra (youngest adult daughter) said "Gobbles" got her when she was in the dog pen and she put the dogs out (ours aren't supposed to run loose they don't stay here on our 21 acres but find their way out to the main road-s).  She then beat him about the head (Gobs is about 75 - 80 lbs of mixed breed dog) to make him let go and the other, much smaller pittX went after her before Rainbow(cat) got out of the pen...  Saw her last night (about 15 hours after the original incident) but haven't seen her today at all...  :(  Not sure if she is still "with us"...

Always enjoy the Moo stories...

Sorry to hear about your kitty, Paula.  Boots is holding his own, but not eating much if anything, I give him a little liquid supplement by syringe.  Tried some canned cat food mixed with water into gruel today, he didn't want any.   His poor little face is so swollen.  Not really sure what to do for him, gave him a little more aspirin today; may have to try warm compresses and see if that helps any.

Absolutely nothing to do with the horses, but...   I noticed a spot in my left eye at least a month ago, no pain, just could see the veins more than usual and the spot.  Finally went to the eye doctor today, I have an inflammation in the conjunctiva (sp?) likely due to sun, wind and crap blowing in the wind, she sees it a lot in farmers and ranchers.  Recommended lubricating eye drops, if that doesn't bring down the inflammation, then we can moved on to an anti-biotic eye ointment, if that doesn't do it, there are always steroids for it.   Picked up eye drops, and a pair of sunglasses/goggles at the ATV store for when I'm on the 4-wheeler moving cows to protect my eyes, I've been meaning to get the glasses for awhile, and just haven't gotten it done.

I'm glad you had it checked out! You only get one set of eyes and must take care of them.

I hope they heal quickly with the least amount of treatment!!  ;pray  ;pray

I'm about done with two quilts I've been working on, perhaps with the wind howling outside and trying to protect my eye so it'll heal, I'll get them finished sooner rather than later.
